What is Ombré Powder? Is it the same as microblading?
It is the process of implanting coloured pigment into the dermis layer of the skin by means of tiny, sterile, disposable needles using a mechanical tattoo pen. This will produce the appearance of powdery makeup once healed to enhance the natural features of the face.
Ombré Powder is not the same as microblading – as microblading is a technique using a manual linear tattoo blade to mimic the look of brow hairs. They are similar in the fact that they are both semi-permanent procedures. However, they are two very different techniques.
Am I a good candidate for this procedure?
Semi-permanent eyebrows procedure will not be performed on you if any of the following conditions apply to you:
- You are under 18
- You are a diabetic
- You are pregnant/breastfeeding
- You have a major heart problem or you use a pacemaker
- You are undergoing a treatment such as chemotherapy
- You have a viral infection or disease
- You have a severe skin condition
- You have uncontrolled blood pressure
- You have pimples/skin condition on or closely around eyebrows
- You are sick with flu or cold at time of appointment
Does it hurt?
A topical anaesthetic cream and gel are used for numbing during your procedure. Pain thresholds vary from each individual person and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable for the entire procedure, however small amounts of discomfort is to be expected.
How long does it last?
The longevity of the tattoo is dependent on a lot of variables including one’s skin type, lifestyle, compliance to aftercare and the density (soft, medium or bold) of the Ombre Powder. Typically, the tattoo lasts anywhere from 1-2 years. An annual colour touch up is recommended at 12-18 months to refresh and maintain the brow shape.
How long is the process?
The INITIAL SESSION appointment takes up to 4 hours and consists of:
- WAIVER & CONSULTATION – 5 MINUTES
- BROW SHAPE CONSULTATION & MAPPING – 1 HOUR
- NUMBING – 25 MINUTES
- THE TATTOOING PROCESS – 2 TO 2.5 HOURS
- THE FINISHING TOUCH! – 10 MINUTES
How many sessions are needed?
A minimum of two sessions are usually needed, at least 6 – 10 weeks apart. With most procedures, the colour looks dramatically lighter after the first week. Some clients prefer this, while others prefer a bolder look. At the second treatment, the colour retention will be assessed and adjustments will be made as necessary. Everybody heals differently and at different rates. If your cosmetic tattoo does not heal perfectly the first time, do not worry, you can always go darker and add more density at your next appointment.
What if I had my brows done before?
A cover-up or correction are dependent on the colour and age of the previous tattoo. They are done on a case by case basis, so if you have previous work done by another artist, please email a clear photo of your brows to info@shekinahbeauty.ca for consultation.
What to do before appointment?
Prior to your appointment, please do not pluck or shave your eyebrow hairs – having them grown out will help determine the best brow shape during the mapping process.
At least 48 hours prior to your appointment, do not take any blood thinning medications and pain killers (this includes Aspirin, Advil/iBuprofen, etc.) Also, do not consume any alcohol and caffeinated beverages (coffee, tea, etc.) 24 hours prior to your appointment. Following all pre appointment instructions are vital to decrease any sensitivity and bleeding during the procedure to achieve the best results.
What to do for after-care?
- Keep area clean and dry
- No water contact on brows for about 10-14 days (this includes hot steamy showers, saunas, pools, and excessive sweating
- Avoid direct sun exposure
- Itchiness, flakiness, and scabbing are all part of the healing process so do not pick scabs as this will result in loss of pigment
- Apply after care ointment that will be provided
- Full instructions will be given at your appointment
